November was marked by heavy development in preparation for the Freedom-Gemini release, which is coming in December. The TRAC token became available on another exchange, an event that also brought the first fiat pairing. OriginTrail was presented at the Blockchain Technology Summit at the University of California, Irvine and at the University of Barcelona, and we continued with our OriginTrail Academy.

New Exchange: ETHoutlet

On November 29th, the Trace token (TRAC) started trading on another exchange. Hong Kong-based ETHoutlet brought the first fiat pairing for TRAC, with HKD, the Hong Kong Dollar.

ETHoutlet’s mission is to bring consumers a seamless trading experience and gateway for entering into the new decentralized application era. ETHoutlet believes technology should not be a barrier to adoption and that micro-transactions from consumer market participation do matter.

With a fiat-to-crypto gateway and position at the crossroads of the Asian markets, ETHoutlet is aiming at crypto mass adoption. Read more.

Tech Update: Freedom-Gemini Is on Track

Co-founder & CTO Branimir shared an update on OriginTrail’s subreddit a week ago.

Over the past several weeks, the core development team has been busy with the finalization of features and integration for the Freedom-Gemini release scheduled for Q4. The team is making progress as scheduled. The new data layer API is almost completely implemented, the latest being the /trail call, which has been tested with regards to the implementation of the Freedom Data Layer connectors (more info here).

Final preparations for the release are in progress and initial tests show a significant increase in the number of supply chain events supported per dataset.

The development team has completed several important updates, as well, with regards to the Kademlia implementation (catching up with the latest v6 of the Kadence project), trail proof mechanisms, and database optimizations.

In December, we will publish the guidelines on how to update your implementation projects and migrate your nodes to Freedom-Gemini.

OriginTrail at the Blockchain Technology Summit

In November, OriginTrail was part of one of the most expert blockchain summits. Organized at the University of California, Irvine, the Blockchain Technology Summit brought together blockchain experts from SAP, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deloitte, FedEx, Oracle, IBM, and Trace Labs (OriginTrail Core Developers).

Co-Founder & Managing Director Žiga Drev gave a lecture on distributed databases (with OriginTrail Decentralized Network as an example) and later participated in a panel on blockchain security.

After the event, Trace Labs was also part of the blockchain solutions exhibition — which was open to the public — on university premises.

A Look Back at World Crypto Con

This autumn, OriginTrail left an important mark on another great crypto event, World Crypto Con in Las Vegas. Through a keynote and a panel discussion at one of the world’s leading blockchain and cryptocurrency conferences, the audience got insight into how supply chains — powered by OriginTrail — are becoming the “killer app” for blockchain adoption. We also discussed blockchain in supply chains with Mastercard and Samsung.

Communications & Events Highlights

OriginTrail continues to attract attention from professionals, enthusiasts, and the media. The core development team is active in several high-profile EU-funded projects and we are regularly invited to leading industry events.

Some highlights from November:

Co-Founder & Managing Director Tomaz Levak presented at University of Barcelona on how blockchain technology revolutionizes food safety. His lecture was part of a workshop on rapid methods and automation in food microbiology.

Interview with Bruce Porter, Jr.:

The website for the DEMETER project was launched. The DEMETER project is a large-scale deployment of farmer-centric, interoperable, smart farming, IoT-based platforms, delivered through a series of 20 pilots across 18 countries, involving 60 partners (including Trace Labs).
We hosted the second session of the OriginTrail Academy in our tech hub in Belgrade. Our blockchain dev Uroš presented about smart contract development and did a very hands-on intro into the Solidity programming language.
